Harold Sonny Ladoo was born in Couva, Trinidad in 1945. He wrote one novel, after emigrating in 1968 to Canada, where he took a B.A. in English from the University of Toronto, while working as a cook during the day. Apparently, he was working on nine other novels, as well as having written numerous poems and short stories, when his body was found by the side of a road in Trinidad, apparently the victim of a hit-and-run accident, in 1973. One novel was published posthumously. The Canadian poet Dennis Lee wrote a poem about him called The Death of Harold Ladoo.
