Biography

Milorad Pavić was born in Belgrade in 1929. He took his B.A. from the University of Belgrade and received a Ph. D. in literary history from the University of Zagreb. He has taught in universities in various European countries. His first published work was poetry but he has written essays, biographies, criticism, short stories, literary histories and novels and has translated Byron and Pushkin. He received international acclaim for his Hazarski recnik. Roman-leksikon u 100.000 reci (Dictionary of the Khazars, a Novel-Lexicon in 100,000 Words), where reality and fantasy blur. He died in 2009.
